Born on the Island of Cuba and raised in the great American South since he was eight, Chance's musical influences were quite diverse spanning the distance from ethnic latin music at home to stuff on the radio and what his friends listened to. "...at first it was Jimi Hendrix and Paul Simon that interested me in guitar and songwriting. My mama had a classical guitar at home and I picked it up pretty fast. I was 13 then and by the time I was 14 I was holdin my own with players that had 3 or 4 years on me. She bought me a used Martin 12-string (I was listening to Leadbelly and acoustic Lightnin Hopkins) and I could play it fingerstyle which amazed a lotta folks. click here for more |
